He coached at UW-La Crosse from 1992-98 (assistant coach for three years at UW-L before becoming head coach) and compiled a dual meet record of 77-19 during his tenure. He was named the Iowa Conference Wrestling Coach of the Year at Central College (1989). This year's honorees include: Tim Fader, Greg Lonning, Brandon Novak, Jeff O'Gara, and Stef Sair. The 2017 inductees are coaches and former student-athletes who will join the distinguished list of Hall of Famers who have set a standard of excellence in the field of Division III wrestling. The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) will be hosting their 2017 Championship and Hall of Fame Ceremony on Thursday, March 9, in the La Crosse Center Ballroom beginning with a social at 6:00 p.m. with the Division III NWCA Hall of Fame Ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. Lonning will be inducted as a coach and O'Gara for his efforts on the wrestling mat.
